Far Better: Trading the World’s Best for God’s Presence

Hi friend,
Welcome back to Tales of Grace — and to another Abide Mondays.
Lately, I’ve been sitting with Psalm 84:10:
“For a single day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”
I’ve often read this verse as a sweet, feel-good expression. But if I’m honest, I’ve realized that deep in my heart, I’m not always sure it’s truly my reality.
It made me pause and wonder: What kind of fellowship with the Lord did the psalmist have to genuinely choose to be a doorkeeper in God’s house over living the “good life” in the tents of the wicked?
There’s nothing glamorous or impressive about being a doorkeeper. Yet because the Lord is there, it’s far better. That’s the kind of heart posture I want — one that values His presence above all else.
My prayer this week is that this psalm won’t just be something I know in my head, but that it becomes the deep conviction of my heart. And I hope the same for you too!
Let’s pray:
Lord, thank You that You are better — far better than anything I could ever experience or comprehend. Let this truth drop from my head to my heart. Like the psalmist, I want to sing, “Better is a day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere!” Be glorified in my life, Jesus. Let Your name be magnified now and forever. Amen.
Have a blessed week, friend.
And remember: God’s “worst” is far better than the devil’s best!
With love and grace,
The Founder of Tales of Grace
