Hi friend!
Welcome back to Tales of Grace! I’m so glad you’re here!
This week, I’m sharing something really close to my heart—my dear friend Hawa’s incredible journey to faith. It’s such a powerful testimony of how God’s relentless love completely transformed her life. I just know her story will bless you as much as it’s blessed me!
Hawa writes:
Everyone has a story to tell, and mine is a testament to God’s unwavering love and grace. I didn’t grow up in a Christian household, though we attended church. I went simply because my family did.
Growing up, my family structure was different from the typical one with a mom and dad at home. Although my mom was still alive at that time, my dad had passed away. Consequently, my aunt and granny took on the role of raising me. Despite being surrounded by family, I often felt unseen and uncared for. I was confused as to why I felt this way. This confusion stayed with me as a child and into my teenage years, constantly making me question where I truly fit in.
In an attempt to find my place, I sought validation from friends at school, hoping their acceptance would fill the emptiness inside. However, no matter how hard I tried, I still believed I wasn’t enough. This sense of inadequacy led me to a place of doubt, where I didn’t know who I was or where I belonged.
As I continued attending church, I sensed God’s presence. I knew there was Someone like God, the Father, and the Holy Spirit, though I didn’t fully understand who He was. The first time I gave my life to Christ was in high school. However, even then, I still hadn’t formed a personal relationship with Him. Like many teenagers, I searched for my identity in other places but couldn’t find it.
God’s love and grace never failed me. As His Word says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5, NIV). True to His Word, in 2018, He transformed my life, finding me during my darkest moments and bringing me into His Marvelous light.
At a ladies’ conference that year, I had a divine encounter with the Lord. When the speaker invited those wanting to give their life to Christ, I felt the Holy Spirit nudging me. Without a shadow of a doubt, I knew it was time to fully surrender my life to God.
“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15, NIV).
I made the decision not to harden my heart, and from that moment on, I never looked back. I started seeking a deeper relationship with God, spending more time in His Word and prayer. With each step, I built the foundation of my life on His truth, not my own understanding, just as Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) says:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Through this journey, I discovered my identity and purpose in Christ. I came to understand that I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and I am a child of God (John 1:12). The journey hasn’t been easy, but I hold on to the promise in Isaiah 41:10 (NIV):
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Every step of the way, God has been faithful. Even in my struggles, I feel His presence holding my hand and guiding me.
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:8, NIV).
Now, I live with confidence, knowing that my life is in God’s hands and my purpose is firmly rooted in Him.
Hawa’s story is such a beautiful reminder of God’s faithfulness, isn’t it? Even in our darkest moments, His Word promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8). Her journey is a living example of that truth, and it’s so encouraging to see God’s promises in action.
It’s also a gentle nudge for us all—no matter where we’ve been or how far we’ve strayed, God’s grace is always enough to draw us back to Him.
